Abstract
There are major plans to build solar photovoltaic power plants in regions with abundant solar irradiation, where there are also high airborned dust concentrations. In these places, dust accumulation on solar panels could reduce the electricity output by 15-20% every month. Research is under way in search for solutions to mitigate dust accumulation on the solar panels. Electrodynamic dust shield (EDS) is one of the potential "anti-dust" solutions. In this presentation, we will report our research work on the development of an electrodynamic dust shield technology in the Middle Eastern country Qatar. This includes characterization of dust accumulation in the field, laboratory characterization of EDS dust removal efficiency, and preliminary field test results.
