Abstract Aerosol generation, transport and inhalation in natural environments will be reviewed to provide context for experimental replication of these processes for understanding disease transmission, epidemiological risk analysis and development of therapeutics. New data and evidence from the literature is presented to highlight the complexity of interpretation and extrapolation of data concerning natural and experimental bioaerosols.
