Advancing Understanding of Aerosols: The Intersection of Models and Observations
COLETTE HEALD, MIT
Abstract Number: 64 Working Group: Regional and Global Air Quality and Climate Modeling
Abstract Only models can be used to assess the global climate and air quality impacts of aerosols. However, the fidelity of these models must be thoroughly assessed and continually improved based on observations. Field campaigns, satellite observations, and network measurements all provide opportunities to explore the representation of processes and model parameters. In this presentation I will discuss some recent examples from my group of using measurements and models to provide fundamental insight into the processes controlling tropospheric aerosols, including dust, black carbon, and organic aerosol.
