Abstract The study on aerosol dynamics processes, such as formation of nano/microscale aerosol particle and its subsequent growth in quiescent or evolving flows, has received much attention from both chemical engineering and atmospheric environment communities[1]. The suitable theoretical method for resolving aerosol dynamical processes is widely known as population balance modelling (PBM), which is on basis of solving the population balance equation (PBE) in terms of particle number concentration. The study on the solution of the PBE has undergone rapid development in last several decades. In this talk, the development of methods of moments for resolving aerosol dynamics widely used in the community of air environment, especially the Taylor-series expansion method of moments will be reported; the emphasis will be placed on the optimization of type of moment sequence, selection of Taylor series expansion point, optimization of an order of Taylor series expansion, and selection of terms for Taylor series expansion of the Taylor-series expansion method of moments[2-6].
